About Us
Our Story
Every great cane starts with a good grip.
More than thirty years ago in Fairhope, Alabama, W.E. Slay had an unusual idea: the most comfortable cane handle might already exist on an old front door. He started crafting custom canes topped with antique doorknobs, including cut glass, cast brass and porcelain. Then he traveled the country to find the most beautiful and best-fitting knobs he could. Each one had to look like a conversation piece and feel right in the hand.
Word spread. One-of-a-kind canes grew into a full selection, and the business became WalkingCanes.com. In time, his son Morgan Slay took over the day-to-day work. Morgan carried on what his father started: knowing the products, knowing the customers, and making sure every cane fit the person using it.
In the spring of 2023, Derbie Mobility Solutions, LLC acquired WalkingCanes.com from the Slay family. We didn’t buy it to reinvent it. We bought it to continue a tradition of customer service and care that began with one man, a workbench and a box of doorknobs.
What we carry
- Beautiful traditional canes: classic derby, fritz and crook handles in fine woods and finishes
- Interesting new designs: carbon fiber, designer prints and collector’s pieces you won’t find at the pharmacy
- Innovative mobility products: folding and adjustable canes, quad tips, rollators and more
What we promise
Whatever brings you here, whether that’s recovery, balance, everyday support or simply style, we’re committed to helping you find a mobility aid that works well and looks like you. Every cane is sized to fit you, and when you call, you’ll reach a real person who knows canes.
That’s how it started more than thirty years ago, and it’s how we’ll keep doing it.
