The cane sizing information below are the standard methods for measuring for a walking cane. As with any cane or aid to mobility please consult your doctor before sizing and use. Varying shoes may change your cane size. These methods of measuring for a cane are approximate and work for most cane users although it is not always exact. There is no exact science, remember the most important thing is to find a comfortable fit. If unsure when measuring always err on the side of caution and round up, a cane can always be shortened again but can never be made longer once shortened.

How to determine cane size when placing an order. Choose 1 of 3 easy ways to determine cane length before placing order.

1. Measure the size of an existing cane
Do this method by simply measuring from the top of the handle to the bottom of the rubber tip. Round up to the nearest half inch.

2. Measure the cane user
a. Put on the user’s walking shoes.
b. Have the user stand naturally upright as much as possible.
c. Have their arms fall to the sides naturally with a normal relaxed bend at the elbow. (Please see the Diagram for correct posture)
d. Using a tape measure or yard stick, measure the distance from their wrist joint (bottom crease at the wrist) down to the floor. Round up to the nearest half inch.
(For accurate length a second person must read measurement to prevent wrist from moving)

3. Users Height
Take the users height in inches and divide by 2. This is a more approximate measurement but will get you close.
